A Commitment, Not Campaign
Every year, 10% of Vana Shilp's net profit will go back to the artisans whose hands make everything we sell. Not as a one-time gesture, and not as a marketing line for the season. It is a standing commitment, one we intend to honour every year, for as long as we are in business.
Why We're Doing This
A piece of Dokra brass looks finished the moment it leaves the workshop. What it doesn't show is the eighteen hours beside a coal fire it took to get there, or the fact that brass has grown costlier every year while the price of the finished piece has barely moved. Families who have cast metal this way for generations are now doing the arithmetic on whether to continue. We think that arithmetic should tilt in their favour, and a pledge is one honest way to help it.
Where It will Go
The 10% will not be a lump sum sent into the dark. It will be directed toward three things every artisan family we work with has told us matter most.
Raw material costs. Brass and coal have both climbed steadily, and that climb falls hardest on the artisan, not the buyer. Part of the pledge will go toward easing that cost.
Health and working conditions. Casting happens beside a furnace-hot bhatti for long stretches, often in punishing heat. Part of the pledge will go toward the health needs and safer working conditions that come from that work.
Children's education. Many children in artisan families start learning the craft around the age of ten, often because it is what the household needs, not always because it is what the child would otherwise choose. Part of the pledge will go toward keeping education a real option alongside the craft, not a casualty of it.
How We'll Stay Honest about It
We're a young company, just starting out, and we would rather promise less and mean it than promise everything upfront. We haven't closed a full year yet, so this pledge begins with our first profitable one. From then on, we'll share where the 10% went, in plain terms, on this page, every year. If the number changes, or the way it's used changes, you'll see that too.
What This Means for You
Nothing changes about your price or your piece. The 10% will come out of what we keep, not what you pay. When you choose a Vana Shilp piece, you're choosing to grow with a company that already knows where a share of its future is going. We simply thought you should know.
